A 65-year-old-woman is being treated for shock after a pipe bomb attack in Craigavon, County Armagh.

The device was pushed through the letterbox of a house in the Burnside area at about 12:50 GMT on Thursday and exploded inside the property.

The blast caused damage to the front door and hallway of the property.

The woman was upstairs at the time of the attack. She was not physically injured.

Sinn Féin councillor Catherine Nelson described the incident as a "potentially murderous" attack.

"This could have resulted in a death - that is what we could have been wakening up to today," she said.

"It is appalling that a resident is being treated for shock."

The police confirmed that they were investigating previous incidents at the same house.
