Man shot in paramilitary-style attack in north Belfast

A 30-year-old man has been shot in the legs in a paramilitary-style attack in north Belfast.

He was attacked at Velsheda Court in Ardoyne on Monday at about 21:15 BST.

The man was shot in both legs, and police said his injuries were "potentially life changing".

The Police Service of Northern Ireland added that the "brutal and despicable attack" was carried out by a criminal gang intent on controlling the community.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening.

"This is another example of how criminal gangs seek to control local communities through the use of fear and violence," said a PSNI spokesperson.
