Stephen Wilkinson, 26, dies after being hit by car

A 26-year-old man has died after being hit by a car in Cookstown, County Tyrone, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He was Stephen Wilkinson, from the Ardboe area.

The crash happened at about 03:30 BST on Chapel Street. Part of the street was closed for most of the morning, but has now reopened.

The 26-year-old male driver of the car has been arrested and police have appealed for witnesses.

Ulster Unionist councillor Trevor Wilson said the community in Cookstown were "shocked" at the death.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the Wilkinson family at this desperately sad time."
