Police have questioned three women in connection with the murder of prominent loyalist paramilitary John Boreland.

Mr Boreland, a UDA member, was shot dead as he walked to his flat in the Sunningdale Gardens area of north Belfast on 7 August.

Two of the women, aged 29 and 30, were interviewed in Belfast, The third, 24, was questioned in Carlisle, England.

The police said it would submit files on all three to the Public Prosecution Service (PPS).

Three men have previously been charged with perverting the course of justice as part of the investigation. A fourth man has also been reported to the PPS.
