PSNI given more time to question dissident republican suspects

Police have been given more time to question four men arrested over dissident republican activity.

The men were arrested on Wednesday - three of them, two aged 22 and one 24, in Lurgan, County Armagh, and one, aged 46, in Coalisland, County Tyrone.

A court has allowed detectives to continue to question the men until Monday evening.

A fifth man arrested in Lurgan on Thursday also remains in custody.

Police evacuated an estimated 15 homes in Lurgan's Woodville Avenue during Wednesday's searches, which involved forensic teams and a sniffer dog.

Meanwhile, a man arrested by police in County Monaghan investigating dissident republican activity is to appear at a special sitting of the Republic of Ireland's Special Criminal Court on Friday night.

The 53-year-old was arrested in the Carrickmacross area on Wednesday.
