Belfast: Paint daubed on Woodvale Park war memorial

A war memorial has been attacked in north Belfast.

Police said they received a report at about 07:30 BST on Thursday that paint had been daubed on the stone column in Woodvale Park.

The new Lord Mayor of Belfast, the DUP's Brian Kingston, tweeted that he was disgusted by the attack and called it "utterly depraved".

Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness said the attack was "shameful".

"[It] is as repugnant as the attack on the republican memorial in Milltown Cemetery," he added.
