Medals belonging to the family of a World War One veteran that were stolen from a house in north Belfast have been returned.
John Pelan's house in Parkmount Road was robbed on Saturday 9 April.
His grandfather, McIntyre Shields Pelan, was a Sapper in the Royal Engineers who fought at the Battle of the Somme.
The medals were returned undamaged on Monday evening.
Mr Pelan said the thief's decision to return the medals had restored his faith in human nature.
Although they do not hold much monetary value, they are of sentimental value to Sapper Pelan's family.
Among the collection there was a Military Medal for Bravery on the battlefield and a distinguished conduct medal which had been awarded to John's great uncle who died in France.
Mr Pelan said: "This September it will be 100 years since my great-uncle lost his life in the war.
"These are the only relics of his past and his endeavours - this is all we have left of them."
