The chief executive of the Belfast-based Wireless Group, which was formerly UTV Media, is to retire.

John McCann became chief executive of UTV Media in 1999 and led the expansion of its radio operation. He will retire at the time of the annual general meeting in May.

The group completed the sale of its TV assets to ITV this week and is now effectively a radio business.

The Wireless Group will now be led by Richard Huntingford.

Mr Huntingford is currently non-executive chairman and will become executive chairman.

Helen Kirkpatrick, senior independent director, said: "On behalf of all shareholders and employees of the company, I would like to thank John for his outstanding leadership, professionalism and passionate commitment to the UTV Media plc cause over so many years.

"He leaves the company in a very healthy state and with our fondest best wishes."
