Police have been given extra time to question three men arrested for the murder of a man shot dead in south Belfast.

Stephen Carson, 28, was shot in front of his family in a house at Walmer Street in the Ormeau Road area at about 22:45 GMT last Thursday.

Three men aged 32, 37 and 39 were arrested following searches in west Belfast on Friday evening.

Officers have been granted an extra 36 hours to question the men.

Police also appealed for information on a car seen in the area at the time of the shooting.

"Our inquiries into this brutal murder are ongoing," said Det Supt Kevin Geddes.

"We are currently seeking to speak with anyone who may have noticed a dark-coloured saloon type car with southern Irish licence plates being driven in the vicinity of Sunnyside Street and Haywood Avenue between 22:00 and 23:00 GMT on Thursday night."

Police last week said they believe he was murdered as part of a "criminal feud".
