The Balmoral Hotel in west Belfast has been placed into administration.

The hotel, which employs about 100 people, remains trading.

Stuart Irwin of the administrators KPMG said: "It is our intention to keep the hotel open for business as usual, including weddings and all other bookings."

He said KPMG is working with management and staff to "ensure continuity" in the operation of the hotel.

The intention is to sell the business as a going concern.

The partnership which holds the hotel, Balmoral Inns LLP, showed an annual loss of £137,000 in its last accounts.

A Bank of Ireland mortgage is registered on the hotel and it is understood the bank appointed the administrator.
