Glengormley assault: Police find man they wanted to speak to in Belfast

Police searching for a man they wanted to speak to in connection with a serious assault have arrested him.

Officers appealed for the man to contact them after a woman was critically injured in the attack in Glengormley, County Antrim, on Wednesday night. She is now stable.

Police had released a photo of him and details of his car on Thursday and warned the public not to approach him.

He was arrested on the Newtownards Road in Belfast about 14:00 GMT on Friday.

Det Insp Chris Millar said: "I would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance in this matter.

"We received a number of calls from members of the public throughout our search and we are grateful for that co-operation. Our investigation into this serious assault will now continue."

The injured woman, who is 26, was attacked at a house on Ashgrove Road on Wednesday night and remains critically ill in hospital.

It is understood she lives in the house with her two young children.
