NI floods: Five people rescued from vehicles in Armagh

Firefighters have rescued five people from vehicles that became stuck in flood water in County Armagh.

Rescue teams were called to the Armagh Road, Armagh, shortly after 14:30 GMT on Tuesday, when a car and a 4x4 vehicle got stuck in floods.

A woman was rescued from the car and the other four people inside the 4X4 were also helped to safety.

None of them needed medical treatment and the rescue operation was completed in just under a hour.

Three fire appliances were sent to the scene, one each from Armagh, Portadown and Warrenpoint fire stations.

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) advised motorist to avoid travelling on roads directly affected by flooding.

A number of roads remain closed in Northern Ireland after Storm Desmond caused flooding in several areas over the weekend.
