A 32-year-old man arrested by police investigating the murder of a man in north Belfast 14 years ago has been released.

Last week, police re-opened an investigation into the murder of David Clarke.

The 26-year-old, who had learning difficulties, was beaten to death in his flat at Forthriver Road on 6 June 2001.

The man was arrested in the Shankill area on Thursday morning.

He was later released unconditionally.

At the time, police said Mr Clarke's killing was one of the most savage and brutal they had ever dealt with.

Det Ch Insp Alan Dickson said the inquiry had been re-opened after detectives received new information.
