The electrical retailer Currys has confirmed that its Belfast city centre branch is set to close.

A Currys spokesperson could not confirm how many jobs would be affected by the closure of the Donegall Arcade store.

The Belfast Telegraph reported that up to 25 staff are employed at the branch.

The commercial property firm CBRE, which manages the arcade's rental units, said Currys had not renewed its lease. It is due to expire next month.

Curry's public relations representative told the BBC the planned closure was part of a wider strategy to focus on larger format stores which combine a Currys and a PC World.

The electrical firm is part of the Dixons Carphone Group, which has almost 1,300 stores across the UK and Ireland.
