Elderly men robbed by 'UVF gang' in Ahoghill

Masked men claiming to be UVF members have robbed two elderly men in their County Antrim home.

The three men entered the house at New Road in Ahoghill on Monday evening. They searched a number of rooms before leaving with cash.

The pensioners were not hurt but are said to have been left shaken by their ordeal.

Det Ch Insp Catherine Magee said the incident was similar to one last week in Garvagh, County Londonderry.

In that burglary, an elderly couple were robbed by a gang of five men armed with iron bars and screwdrivers, who also claimed to be from a paramilitary organisation.

"Links between the two burglaries are being explored, but a definite link has yet to be established," she said.

Police have appealed for information.
