Belfast man 'hid heroin between buttocks'
A 24-year-old man who was caught in Belfast city centre with a bag of heroin hidden between his buttocks has been remanded in custody.
Stephen Mark Kevin Bolton, of Monagh Drive, was charged with three counts of possessing the Class A drug.
The court heard he was arrested after being seen acting suspiciously near Castle Court shopping centre.
A strip-search revealed he had hidden a bag with 4.1 grams of the drug - worth about £500 - between his buttocks.
He was also carrying two small wraps of heroin, estimated by police to be worth about £25 each, Belfast Crown Court was told.
A prosecution lawyer said Bolton had told detectives that the reason why he had so much of the drug was because "it was coming up to his birthday and he had bought a few days' worth to sustain his habit".
Bolton was caught with the heroin in September 2012 while in breach of a suspended sentence for a previous drugs-related offence, the court was told.
A defence lawyer said Bolton had made many efforts to tackle his addiction, including a referral to a detox programme.
He said Bolton's offending was "symptomatic of his dependency", adding that he had been dealing with a serious family matter at the time of his arrest.
The barrister said Bolton was "not a hopeless case", adding that he was now free of drugs and had a job.
The judge remanded him in custody to be sentenced on Friday.
