The education minister has added a school in east Belfast to the list of new school builds that he announced just over a week ago.

It follows a failed judicial review into the decision to merge two secondary schools in the area.

Knockbreda and Newtownbreda high schools had been due to amalgamate later this year. Parents failed in legal action opposing that.

Now the minister said a new state-of-the-art school would be built.

Mr O'Dowd said the merger would be delayed until September 2015, when a new principal is due to take charge.

The South Eastern Education and Library Board has welcomed the news.

It said consultation about a site for the new school is to begin later this summer. The board said plans for a new name and uniform were already at an advanced stage.
