A gun attack on a car in a residential part of west Belfast put families in the area "at great risk", a city councillor has said.

Two shots were fired at the vehicle in Andersonstown Park at about 22:00 GMT on Friday.

No-one was injured as the car was empty at the time, but the shots damaged the driver's door.

SDLP Councillor Tim Attwood condemned the attack and appealed for anyone with information to contact the police.

"Thankfully no one was hurt during the shooting. Many young families live in this area and their safety was put at great risk," Mr Attwood said.

"I would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious to come forward to police and help them with their enquiries."
