Curious Journey: Unlocking the secrets of Mars

For centuries we've been fascinated by Mars and its apparent similarity to our own planet. In this slideshow, Northern Ireland born Dr Patrick Harkness, a lecturer in Space Systems Engineering at the University of Glasgow, explains how the Mars Rover Curiosity journeyed across space to the surface of the red planet, and reveals how its work opens a window on Mars' past and possibly Earth's future.
