Council boost for Belfast city centre traders
Belfast City Council is to spend an extra £275,000 on a promotion campaign to help city centre traders during the Christmas and new year periods.
About £150,000 will go towards a programme of street entertainment aimed at bringing life to the city in the four weekends leading up to Christmas.
Businesses will benefit from an extra £50,000 towards advertising before Christmas and £75,000 in January.
The cash is in addition to the council's usual spend over the holiday.
The council's gesture is intended to help finance a marketing campaign to encourage people from across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to visit Belfast and enjoy its retail and hospitality facilities.
