Antrim arrest follows reports of knifeman

A 21-year-old man has been arrested following reports of a man armed with a knife in the Railway Street area of Antrim on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers were called to the area at about 13:30 BST.

Following a search, a man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, theft, criminal damage and attempted robbery.

A 16-year-old girl was also arrested over the attempted robbery.

She was detained in Antrim's Riverside area.

The assault related to an incident in Donore Crescent at about 07:10 BST in which a man suffered injuries to his face.

Other alleged offences committed by the arrested man include the theft and criminal damage of alcohol from a lorry parked in High Street at about midday.

He is also being questioned in connection with an attempted robbery at a store in High Street that happened at about 13:35 BST.
