Two arrests after German man stabbed in Dublin

A 22-year-old German man has died and a second man has been critically injured in a stabbing in the Irish Republic.

The pair were attacked at about 05:30 GMT, after a row broke out at the Herberton Apartments on St Anthony's Road in Rialto, Dublin.

Irish police have begun a murder investigation and have arrested two teenagers in the city.

The German national sustained serious stab wounds to his stomach. The other man was stabbed at least five times.

He was detained at about 12:30 GMT and has been taken to Kevin Street Garda station for questioning.

After the attack, both injured men were rushed to St James's Hospital in Dublin, but the German man died just after 09:00 GMT.

The second man remains in a critical condition.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
