A new basic training course is being brought in for all learner moped and motorbike riders in Northern Ireland.

At present, learners are allowed on the road provided they display an L-plate.

However, from next Monday all new riders will have to complete a series of tests before they are able to ride their vehicles alone on public roads.

It is hoped that introducing the course will help reduce the number of crashes on Northern Ireland roads which involve motorcycles.
