A 40-year-old man is to go on trial charged with raping a five-year-old girl 25 years ago.

At his arraignment at Londonderry Crown court on Thursday the defendant, who cannot be named, replied 'not guilty' to two charges of rape.

He also replied 'not guilty' to two charges of indecently assaulting the same child, to whom he is related.

The defendant is alleged to have committed offences in 1986 when he was 15 years old.

He was released on continuing bail.
