Funeral of Ciara Doherty is held in west Belfast

The funeral has taken place of Ciara Doherty, the 11-year-old who was found dead in her west Belfast home at the weekend.

Father John Forsythe told mourners at Christ the Redeemer Church that she had not intended to take her own life.

He said what had happened had been a 'fit of pique' which had gone too far.

He also warned youngsters of social networking, emphasising the importance of "authentic friends" over friends you do not know and cannot trust.

Ciara died on the same weekend as west Belfast teenager Martin Rooney, who took his own life in the neighbouring Twinbrook estate.

Community and health groups in west Belfast have met the First and Deputy First Ministers in the wake of the tragedies.
