An Armagh couple have appeared in Newry Court charged with offences connected with the seizure of cannabis plants valued at £275,000 earlier this week.

A second couple are being questioned by police about the same seizure.

Ross and Joy McClelland, Turnberry Green, Tandragee, were charged after the discovery of two cannabis factories in premises at Ahorey Road, Richhill.

The couple were granted bail on £2,500 each and one single cash surety of £4,000.

The court heard that the cannabis factories were discovered when police forced the locks of a warehouse which housed a pallet-building business.

Police said that when questioned, Mr Ross said he had been cultivating the drugs for 18 months.

Mrs Ross said she had been aware of the operation from October 2010.

Both told police that other people were involved but refused to name them.
