Eirigi to stand in NI elections

Socialist republican party, Eirigi, which is opposed to Sinn Fein's involvement in the Northern Ireland executive, is to stand for the first time in NI elections.

The decision was announced in Belfast at the weekend.

Chairperson Brian Leeson said there was "a real appetite for a radical voice" in NI politics.

He said the party would challenge the budget cuts and economic deprivation in the 5 May elections.

Eirigi was founded in 2006 but only became a registered political party in 2010.
