183 new jobs at Craigavon Tesco Extra store

The first minister has attended the opening of Tesco's biggest store in Northern Ireland which has created 183 jobs.

The multi-million pound new store means Tesco Extra in Craigavon will now employ 377 people.

As well as food retail, the 84,000 sq ft premises will host other facilities, including an optician and a phone shop.

Peter Robinson said it was a welcome development for Craigavon and the wider economy.

He added: "The construction of the store represents a vote of confidence in Northern Ireland and this multi-million pound investment creating 183 extra jobs is a boost to our economy.

"Many local producers supply their Northern Ireland produce to Tesco and we look forward to the continued development and expansion of this relationship."

Stores director Stephen Cochrane said the new store was a further demonstration of its commitment to Northern Ireland.

He added: "This is a very exciting time for Craigavon and the surrounding areas and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the local residents, groups and organisations for their support and patience during the construction of this store."
