County Tyrone quarry fined for polluting river

A County Tyrone company has been fined £12,500 for polluting the Drumnakilly River.

A water quality inspector observed a discoloured and salty discharge upstream at Drumnakilly bridge on 30 January 2009, following a tip-off.

The source of the pollution was traced back to McAnenly Quarries Ltd, Spring Road, Drumnakilly, Carrickmore.

A sample showed the discharge contained poisonous, noxious or polluting matter which was potentially harmful to fish.

The company was also fined £37 court costs at Omagh Magistrates Court.
