Scammers con £1,000 out of Derry pensioner

A Londonderry pensioner has been conned out of £1,000 by phone scammers.

84-year-old Eileen Coyle, who lives in sheltered accommodation, gave her credit card details to a caller who said she could win a holiday to Florida for her family.

Mrs Coyle described those responsible as "lousy", and warned other elderly people to be on their guard.

"My grandson was most annoyed about his granny being caught like this," she said.

"He said at least I have family who will rally round, but it could be some other pensioner who has no-one, and they would be in a terrible state."
