Three trailers that cost North Down ratepayers about £120,000 and were never used are to be auctioned off by the council.
The trailers with large containers used to transport waste were part of a consignment of 14 custom-built trailers bought for about £529,000.
It was reported last year that nine were in service, but only after £124,000 was spent on modifications.
No use was found for the other five. Three will be auctioned on Thursday.
Any sale is unlikely to recoup the money spent on the trailers, which each cost about £40,000.
North Down Borough Council said the trailers were bought at a time when it was thought they would merge with Ards Borough Council.
With the Review of Public Administration on hold, the council does not need the unmodified trailers.
The council said two other trailers, which also have not been used, would be kept in case replacements are needed.
