First minister visits suicide prevention charity

First Minister Peter Robinson

NI First Minister Peter Robinson is to visit the Lighthouse organisation in north Belfast later on Wednesday.

Lighthouse is a charity which offers counselling and other services to families affected by suicide.

Mr Robinson will meet some of those who have been helped by the charity.

It offers a wide range of counselling services and therapies, as well as advice, information and support to families and people in distress.

The organisation, previously known as PIPS - Public Initiative for Prevention of Suicide and Self-Harm, was set up in 2003 in response to the exceptionally high rate of suicides in north Belfast.

Lighthouse also campaigns on the issues of suicide and self-harm to incease public awareness and improve access to services.
