16-year-old boy killed in Randalstown crash

A 16-year-old motorcyclist has died in a road accident near Randalstown in County Antrim.

The crash happened just after 1630 BST on Wednesday on the Castle Road at the junction with the Milltown Road.

The teenager who died was Shane Louis Magill from the Randalstown area.

Police want to speak to the occupants of a red van with a roof rack which was travelling on the Castle Road at the time of the accident.

Local MP William McCrea said the community was shocked by the tragedy.

"This is a tremendous loss to Shane's family and a tremendous loss to the district," he said.

"Shane was a lovely young lad whose life has been taken away."

Mr McCrea said it was too early to speculate about the circumstances of the accident.

The Castle Road has been closed while the crash scene is examined.
