The mother of a toddler who died from horrific injuries has appeared in court charged with child neglect.

Rachael Martin's 15-month-old daughter Millie had suffered fractured ribs and a blow to the stomach days before she died in Enniskillen last December.

Her partner Barry McCarney has previously been charged with murder.

The 25-year-old was charged with wilfully neglecting a child in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury. She was released on bail.

The judge at Enniskillen Magistrates Court said she must observe a curfew between 1900 and 0700 and must not take drink or drugs.

A police constable told the court they did not believe any of Millie's injuries were caused by her mother.

He said she had co-operated fully with police since her daughter's death and had vigorously denied the charge during two days of questioning.

Last December, her partner Barry McCarney, who is not the baby's father, was remanded in custody charged with murder.
