Fishermen rescued from high seas off Cushendall

Three fishermen have been rescued after getting into difficulty off the coast of County Antrim near Cushendall.

The men were out in a 14-foot boat on Saturday afternoon when weather conditions deteriorated.

They managed to navigate the boat through gale force conditions to reach cages kept in the sea by a salmon farm.

A lifeboat crew brought them to safety before towing their boat ashore. The men were not injured, but were said to be cold and wet following their ordeal.

The rescue operation was co-ordinated by Belfast Coastguard.
