Taxi driver choked, punched and kicked by passenger

A taxi driver has been attacked after taking two men from the city centre to west Belfast.

He picked up the men at Castle Street shortly before 0100 BST, before being asked to stop on the Monagh Bypass near an alleyway leading to Aitnamona.

The back seat passenger then grabbed the driver around the neck choking him.

He then got out of the car, opened the driver's door and began to punch and kick him. Both passengers then ran away down the alleyway.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have been travelling on the Monagh Bypass around this time or anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
