Two men are to face burglary charges in Londonderry

Two men have been charged with burglary in Londonderry as a result of an ongoing police operation.

A 42-year-old man is expected to appear at Londonderry Magistrates' Court on 14 September.

A 35-year-old man will appear on the same date charged with burglary and criminal damage.

Police have arrested and charged 10 people in relation to burglary offences since Operation Safer Homes started on 15 August.

Acting Chief Inspector Jon Burrows has welcomed the recent success but advised people not to make it easy for criminals.

"Perhaps it sounds too simple, and that's why some people still haven't got the message but the reality is, a lot of burglaries can be prevented if the public get into the habit of locking all doors and windows, even when the house is occupied," he said.

Police carried out seven planned searches in Derry on Tuesday 24 August as part of Operation Safer Homes.
