Controlled explosion on car in Cushendall

Army technical officers have carried out a controlled explosion on a suspicious vehicle abandoned in Cushendall.

A number of houses were evacuated on Tuesday while the car left at Moyle View was examined.

A police spokesperson said nothing has been found and the vehicle is still being examined.

She said police were also investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Sinn Fein North Antrim MLA Daithi McKay said he believed the vehicle was one of two which were stolen in the area on Monday night.

He said he understood police were investigating if the incident was solely linked to car crime or whether there was another motive.

He said residents in the village had been left distressed when their homes were evacuated.
