A teenager who raped a 15-year-old girl has been sentenced to three years in a young offenders institution.
The boy, who is now 17 and cannot be named for legal reasons, attacked the girl at a property in York in 2015. He was also 15 at the time.
He denied one count of rape but was convicted following a trial in January.
The boy was also placed on the sex offenders register for life and given a restraining order to stay away from his victim.
Det Sgt Matthew Wilkinson, from North Yorkshire Police, praised the victim's courage in contacting police.
Speaking after sentencing at York Crown Court he said: "This case is particularly harrowing not only due to the young age of the victim, but also the age of the offender.
"Specially-trained officers have given the victim close support throughout this investigation ,but nobody should have to start their adult life trying to deal with the trauma of this offence."
