Calf shot by thieves after being dragged from shed

A heifer was left to die in a field after being dragged out of its barn by thieves on a quad bike and shot, police have said.

North Yorkshire Police said the attack happened near Tadcaster shortly before midnight on 21 December.

The force said thieves also stole trailers belonging to the farmer and damaged property.

The young cow died as a result of its injuries. The force is asking for witnesses to get in touch.
