York's Mansion House restoration work to start
Work has started on a £2m refurbishment project at The Mansion House in York.
The work includes the restoration of the building's original kitchens and improving access to the city's collection of gold and silverware.
The project is being funded by a £1.2m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund as well as funding from City of York Council and donations.
The Mansion House is the official home of the city's Lord Mayor and was built in 1732.
The work is being carried out by York-based contractors William Anelay, with the building expected to re-open to the public in early 2017.
