A major road has been flooded in North Yorkshire after a water main burst.

Police have closed the A19 Doncaster Road in Brayton, near Selby between the Brayton Lane junction and the Fox Hill Lane junction.

Yorkshire Water said a 12in (30cm) water main had burst and may have left households without water or pressure.

A spokeswoman said staff were on site and would repair the water main as soon as possible.

North Yorkshire Police said the road had been damaged by the flooding and that road closures would be in place "for some time".
