Police are investigating the theft of two Gulf War medals from a car hire firm in Catterick Garrison.

The medals and two laptops were taken from North Coast 4x4 in Richmond Road.

North Yorkshire Police said CCTV footage showed a man forcing his way into the premises through a side door at about 21:00 BST on Monday.

He is described as white, about 5ft 11in (1.8m) and of stocky build. He was wearing a sleeveless bomber jacket, t-shirt, baseball cap and gloves.

The commemorative First Gulf War medals were in a presentation box with a brass plate.

PC Jim Egan, of Catterick Garrison police, has appealed for witnesses to come forward.

He said: "There is a high likelihood that a member of the public may have seen a vehicle used in the crime or the actual offender and I urge anyone with information to contact the police or Crimestoppers."
