Police investigating a collision which claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy are tracing a "vital witness".

Alexander John Bradley was crossing the A64 to get the bus to school on Monday when he was hit.

A Renault Scenic and a Ford Transit van were involved in the incident, which happened at about 0740 GMT on Monday at West Heslerton.

Officers want to speak to the driver of a vehicle that was travelling westbound behind the white transit van.

Traffic Sgt John Clayton, of North Yorkshire Police, said: "It is entirely possible that they may be unaware of the seriousness of the collision and how important they are to this inquiry.

"I urge them to come forward as soon as possible."
