Police warning over bogus Selby workman who stole cash

Money was stolen from a woman, 78, in North Yorkshire after a bogus caller offered to repair her property.

Police received two reports of a man knocking on doors in Ouse Bank and Elm Street, Selby, on 19 January.

He offered to carry out repair work at the properties and in one incident took the money without completing the work.

The white man is described as about 5ft 8in (1.72m) tall with short dark hair. He knocked on several properties in both streets, police said.

At the time he was wearing a black jacket and trousers and used a silver Daewoo to drive off towards Barlby.

A second man who stayed with the car was white, about 6ft (1.82m) tall with blond spiky hair.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the police.
