Man charged with threatening to kill Wiltshire police officer

A man has appeared in court charged with making threats to kill a police officer in Wiltshire.

Shafiq Rafiq was arrested on Wednesday, after police responded to "concerning reports" from the public, and appeared before Salisbury magistrates.

Mr Rafiq, 37, from Barnard Street, Salisbury, is also accused of criminal damage to a police cell and disorderly conduct in a police station.

He was remanded in custody and is due before Salisbury Crown Court on 5 July.

A spokesman for the force, said: "We must make it absolutely clear that this incident is not linked to terrorism in any way and we advise people not to speculate."
