Campaigners say they have been given an "impossible timeframe" to save Swindon's libraries.

Councillors voted on Wednesday night to stop funding 10 of the town's 15 libraries, unless community groups come forward to take them over.

Expressions of interest need to be made before the end of January.

Sarah Church, from Save Swindon Libraries, said "even established community groups" would struggle to come up with a plan in that time.

She added: "We need to look carefully at what steps the group can now take to save the smaller libraries."

Swindon Borough Council says the remaining five libraries will be within two miles of 91% of residents' homes.

The "core network" comprises Central, North Swindon, West Swindon, Highworth, and Park.
