Man, 60, charged over Swindon 1987 cold case rape

Cold case investigators have charged a man in connection with the rape of a girl almost three decades ago.

David John Mears, from Plymouth, is accused of the rape, indecent assault and false imprisonment of a teenager in Swindon in 1987.

The 60-year-old suspect is due to appear before Swindon Magistrates' Court later.

Advances in forensic testing meant new evidence was available to detectives, a Wiltshire Police spokesman said.
