Iron Age settlement found in south Wiltshire during dig

An Iron Age settlement has been found in Wiltshire during preparations for the construction of a new reservoir.

Wessex Water are building the new facility at Camp Hill, north of Salisbury.

Archaeologists say the hilltop settlement dates from about 50BC and human remains were also found at the site along with Roman pots and spears.

An exhibition of the artefacts will be held at Wilton House when all of the findings have been processed.

Ollie Williams, environmental scientist at Wessex Water, said: "The area that Camp Hill is very archaeologically sensitive, with sites such as Stonehenge and Old Sarum, just down the road."
