Libraries in Wiltshire kept open by volunteers

More than 300 volunteers are now running libraries in Wiltshire that were at risk of being closed down.

Wiltshire Council planned to close 10 of the county's smallest libraries to save money, but enough volunteers came forward to keep them all open.

The council said volunteers were still coming forward and that 15 had joined in the last three months alone.

A spokesman said the council really appreciated "the work they do to help to keep our smaller libraries open".

He added: "So far things are going very well, our volunteers are very enthusiastic."
